Supreme Court Ruling on Gay Rights in India

Frankly, the Indian Supreme court's ruling was not unexpected at all. Homosexuality confronts deep prejudice in India -- the sort which inspires silence. Gay people and their rights are not a priority in this country.

I didnt expect the Supreme Court to rule that "section 377" was ultra vires.

its sad to say that human rights in india are a bit of a joke -- sorry am frustrated with the way things in this country take forever and often reach an illogical conclusion.

More on this later , just a bit upset right now.

Hey Jalaj,

Saw posts from you after a very long time. I still remember the days I spent while reading your blogs on rediff once upon a time and writing detailed comments on them :)

The ugly turn of events #Section377 in Supreme Court had a silver line which was too bright to miss!
The unanimous support from Media, positive Support from Main stream political party leaders etc was just tip of iceberg.
Thousands of guys like me have come out to their parents and friends in these 4 years. It'll be impossible for this change to go back into closet again!
If anything, this judgement raised a contentious issue and now homosexuality has become from a non-issue to "some" issue! It in itself is big change :)

Keep writing :)
